For the guy who stole my heart....

 V034

Guess when did I got the request to design this card? Last May 2010! Gosh....so long ago....and only today, I finally got it done. Phew! Honestly when I received the request, I didn't know how to go about designing it. Because it was something different from the usual requests I've received before. That's why I took such a long long time to get it done. Luckily for me, my customer was not in a hurry to send this card to the receiver so, that sure gave me a lot of time to figure it out.

My customer said that she wanted the card to be of blue and white.....and the rest was up to me to decide. She provided me with the wordings though which I thought was lovely hehehe..... ;). I wanted to incorporate some quilling designs on the card but at first I couldn't decide on what type of quilling form I was going to do. In the end I decided to quill a heart. It's just like the other quilled heart patterns I've done before except that the color combination is different. Since the whole card is about 90 % blue.....I fell in love with it instantly. I love blue! :)

The card stock is dark metallic blue in color. It shines the minute it hits the light. Love it! Seriously I didn't know how to do the layout with the wordings like the above for the front design. In the end I arranged it separately whereby I place half of the wordings at the top....and the other half at the bottom. Then, I was lost.....didn't know what to put in the middle.....that's when the idea came to do the quilled heart. Then I made dots to connect the top wordings and the bottom wordings with the quilled heart. The design is kinda symbolic....I was trying to show a connection between the two of them.....I wonder if you see what I mean hehehehe. I can get kinda "overboard" with my designs sometimes.....sometimes only I understand what I'm trying to convey in my designs....hahahahaha. :D.

Then......I had a hard time figuring out how to do the pop up inside.....I went to do some research online to find some inspiration and I was inspired by Lori Whitlock's pop up hearts.....I loved it.....and tried to do something similar but I made it my own by changing the patterns a bit. You can view her heart pop up design HERE. :)

QUILLING GET TOGETHER V1.0

Hello there my lovely readers...... :)

I have a really important and exciting announcement to make here today. My fellow blogger Miyyah from Miyyah@Kertas, is holding the first ever Quilling Get Together this October 2010. The whole idea of this get together is for everyone to learn what quilling is all about and  to learn how to quill as well. It's also  for us to get inspired from other quillers and learn from them their experiences, knowledge and skills. This get together event is very laid back, nothing formal.....just all of us having fun quilling together! :)

So on behalf of Miyyah@Kertas, I would like to take this opportunity to invite those who are interested in quilling to join us in this humble event. Even if you have zero knowledge in quilling, you are welcome to join  us and learn from the experts there. I myself will be there to join in the fun! :) I'm not an expert quiller but I'd be more than happy to teach those who have not tried their hand in quilling before. And for those who do not have their own quilling tool, I can help teach you how to make your own quilling tool as well hehehehe! :)

I would also like to inform here that this event is a non profit event. No one will be charged for attending it or to learning how to quill. :) For those who do not have any basic tools or paper to quill, you can purchase them from Miyyah on the day of the event. She will be selling the basic quilling kit there.

Below are the details of the event:
Date: 3rd October 2010 (Sunday)
Venue: KLCC Park, Kuala Lumpur (please gather at the entrance door opposite the water fountains before moving to the event location)
Time: 10.00am

You can visit this link in Facebook HERE to confirm your attendance with Miyyah@Kertas. Or you can email Miyyah for more inquiries at : miyyah@gmail.com

Do not miss this great opportunity to meet quilling artists and craft enthusiasts and have fun quilling and networking. I can't wait to meet everyone. So exciting! See you all there!

Ok...I got carried away yesterday with this "CONGRATS!" clear stamp. I just started stamping it over and over again on small pieces of white paper hehehe......thinking that I would use them someday on any designs in future.

Then I got this simple idea of doing these small gift cards that I can use for weddings. You see, I don't like giving presents to couples on their wedding day. I prefer to give them money instead so that they can use it to buy whatever that suits their fancy . And I would usually put the money in this small gift card and at the same time the gift card acts as a congratulation card that I can use to write on simple wishes in it. So it's a double function card hehehehe.

I also love the fact that I finally was able to use those small peach color flower stems that I bought long time ago. When I look at all the embellishments I have.....I can see that I bought a lot but have not used them yet.....they just sit there waiting to be utilize hehehe. I just have no idea of what to do with them  just yet....hehehehe......but the ideas will come....eventually :) God willing :).

I miss you....

A good friend of mine requested me to make this card for her last night. I told her that I'm still on leave.....but it's very very important to her it seems for me to do it last night, so I did it anyways.  Kawan punya pasal......siapkan juga laaaa......hehehe.....Aaaahhhhh.....people in love simply just can't wait can they?  They can be so impatient hehehehe......

I've done quilled hearts before......quite a few designs with various color combination on a beige colored card but this time around I did it using one of my favourite color combo which is the red, white and maroon combo on a black colored card. I've used this color combination many a times before for a few love theme cards. So I thought it would be nice to use it for one of my quillled hearts designs. I'm surprised on how it turned out. I'm glad my friend loved it so much :).

Prizes posted!

Yay!....after so many weeks since the announcement of the August 2010 Blog Giveaway's winners, finally I  managed to get all the giveaway cards done and got them posted  to the lucky winners yesterday. Unfortunately, I'm a bit unhappy about it as well because there are 2 more winners who did not respond. You see, after waiting for 22 days, I only managed to get in touch with 6 out of the 8 winners of the giveaway....All 6 of them have emailed me their contact details so that I can post the prizes to them. I will still keep the remaining prizes for the other 2 winners in case one day, they decide to contact me to claim their prizes.

If you look at the 3rd photo at the bottom, it's actually a small gift card that I made for the winners hehhehe.....I was just playing around with my new clear stamp. It was given to me by my dear friend CC. She gave me quite a few clear stamps that I love love love so much!! But the thing is, I'm always finding it difficult to get an idea for the clear stamps.....where to stamp them in what type of design....and etc etc......hehehhehe.....I just can't decide. In the end I finally gave it a try with the "CONGRATS!" stamp. You see, I usually include a note inside each prize that I give to the winners. Sometimes I use the handmade cards that I made a while back.....but since I wanted the cards to look alike for all the winners, and I didn't have 8 available cards in hand, so that's why I made these cute ones using the clear stamps. They are so simple and fast to make! hehehehe......and cute too! hehehe :D

Happy Engagement

 E001

I received an order from my Mom's friend a while back......but I only got the chance to complete the order today. Gosh....thank God her friend was not upset with me for completing it so late...huhuhu. I'm so glad that she is very happy with the design though heheee. Actually the design is similar as the wedding card  design I made some time ago. Except that I changed the color from soft blue to soft purple. Changed the type of ribbon as well....and also made some changes with the pop up design inside. You can view the wedding card  design at the link HERE

I love simple designs like this. Not too complicated to get done and looks fancy enough for wedding cards and for engagement too. I guess what's important when it comes to this type of design is to choose the right ribbons and laces....something fancy....that should do the trick :).  Plus, a good quality card stock would be good too...especially if it is the embossed type or has metallic shine to it. :)

September 2010 Blog Giveaway

Prize for September 2010 Blog Giveaway:
9 quilled flower cards for 9 lucky winners

Alhamdulillah......I managed to come up with a design that I love for my September blog giveaway. So this giveaway will only be running for 15 days before it ends at the end of the month.

This time around I'm going to give a new rule for the giveaway. As there are only 4 months left before my blog giveaway marathon ends at the end of the year. So I want to make the last 4 giveaways something that everyone can participate in. 3 flowers card

AO048

It's that time of the month again where I will be holding a giveaway and for the September 2010 Blog Giveaway, I am a tad bit late at preparing a design for it. In the end this is what I came up with! hehe! I wanted the design to have the color blue. September is my favourite month of the year and my favourite color is blue so I decided to combine the two together.

This is a very simple card design using the quilling technique. I chose flowers as my subject matter again this time around because I love flowers! No doubt about it.....flowers have been my favourite motif since I started designing. So that's why I chose it for my September's giveaway card. One thing though that I did differently is the leaves on the stalk. I've always wanted to do this type of design whereby the leaves are arranged this way. Noticed how my designs for the giveaways are getting simpler and simpler?? hehehe.....that's because this month, I have to prepare 9 cards!! Yikes!! haha! Wish me luck!! :)

27 candles...

HB054B

Another order I took during the fasting month of a love theme birthday card. I made this design some time ago and my customer was really interested to order it. But she requested that I put only 27 candles at the pop up cake because it's her husband's 27th birthday. So that's what I did. See the original design at the link HERE

This pop up cake is also another pop up that is very time consuming and difficult to do. One mistake can ruin the whole pop up. But I'm so happy that the pop up worked out fine after I glued it inside the card. The most critical stage is during the process of gluing it inside the card. Once glued......there's no turning back.

Since there were only 27 candles made......so for the smallest cake at the top, I couldn't put anymore candles. That's when I decided to cut out the number 27 and paste it at the top so that it doesn't look so empty. I must say that this design is one of my favourites! Hope it's yours too! :)

Love theme birthday card

HB069B

During the fasting month I got an order to remake this birthday card for my customer. She was very much interested in this design. This is actually a birthday card design that I made some time ago for a customer of mine. Have a look at the original design at the link HERE. But for this new customer, I was asked to do the wordings on the front of the card with a simple "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" instead of "HAPPY BIRTHDAY SAYANG".

I must say that trying to remake this pop up design was the toughest for me. In the end I had to change the pop up a bit from the original design. And I think this new pop up I made is much easier to do compared to the original one hehehe. This design is definitely a lot of work! This is the thing about  remaking handmade cards......you can never really get it to look exactly 100% from the original.....there will always be something that's a little different no matter how hard you try. Sometimes I even forget how I did it in the first place! LOL! :D Because it was all spontaneously done at the time....the mood I was in was different as well......so a lot of things were taken into consideration when it comes to handmade artwork.....what you feel inside at that particular moment will show in your artwork. Believe it ....or not. :)

Eid Mubarak

Salam to all readers and fans of Lin Handmade Greeting Cards....

I would like to wish all of you a very happy Eid Mubarak and Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri! I hope all Muslims around the world are having a wonderful celebration today :).

I would also take this opportunity to make an special announcement. Orders of handmade cards are officially closed until further notice. I'm taking a break from work for a while. A much needed break actually hehehe. I'm not only taking this break so that I can get some rest but also to get inspired again....I also have to finish making the cards for my giveaway. For last month's giveaway....I still owe the winners their prizes. Hopefully I can get them posted soon. Also I need to think of  what to give for my September's  blog giveaway. Still have no idea yet what I want to design hehehe.

So for those who are interested to order my handmade cards, please email me your orders and I will get back to you once I resume back to work in October. Thank you so much! Have fun and take care everyone! :)

Featured in Utusan Malaysia - Mega

Alhamdulillah, syukur :). I was featured in Utusan Malaysia - Mega today! I was interviewed by the Utusan Malaysia journalist Puan Rina a few weeks ago via email regarding an article she wanted to write about Raya cards and how it has become a phenomenon these days to not send any Raya cards the traditional way to our family and friends. I was asked to give my point of view on it. Again, this was a challenge for me as my Malay is not that good hehehe......but as always I did my best to convey my thoughts on this issue. I'm so glad to see that there were not many editing done to what I wrote.....so I guess my Malay is not that bad after all...hahahaha :D

Since the interview was done via email, so even the photos were taken by yours truly for the article. I had to ask my Mom to help me take photos of myself with the cards by my PC hehehe! Gosh! That was a really funny moment since she is not good with the camera. She had to take photos of me so many times before she finally got that shot! LOL! It was a good experience though. I seriously need to get me a tripod for the camera so that I can take photos without having to trouble anybody in future projects :).

A special heartfelt thank you to Puan Rina for this interview. I'm actually quite surprised that she still remembers me from my first interview with her last year. Didn't know that she still follows my blog till now. I really appreciate that a lot :).

I would like to make some corrections here from the article. My name is Noor not Nor. And I've only been involved in this online business for almost 4 years now....not 5 years hehehe. Just minor mistakes hehehe....which is kinda normal.....it happens sometimes. :)

You can read the short version of article at the Utusan Malaysia online link HERE.

Quilled crescent

HR022

Last year, I made the half moon or crescent for my Eid cards using foam. This year time since most of the decorations on my Eid cards are made using the quilling technique, so I decided to try making the quilled crescent for my latest Eid card design.

I made this card so fast.....so much so that I didn't even prepare the wordings for it. hehehe. So it's just like that for the time being until I have the mood to think about the wordings. :D I plan to use this for myself......believe it or not....I myself didn't have the time to make Eid cards for my own use. I have been so busy making for customers instead. Perhaps after the Eid I will make them and give to my friends. Hope to find the time to do so :)

How to make two tone tear drop shape quilling flowers

We are coming close to mid February and I'm blogging about something that I did last January! LOL! It's been a month sin...
